First United Methodist Church values children and provides child care for all Sunday morning worship services. Our nursery and other child care rooms are clean, safe, well furnished and meet all safety standards. All child care workers have received training and have been screened through implementation of our Child Protection Policy (below). Two paid workers share major responsibilities, and a number of volunteers assist them.
8:15 Service – Child care is provided for up through age 5, year round, in the Infant Nursery.
9:30 Service – Child care is provided for infants and toddlers, year round with a paid nursery worker in the Infant Nursery. This is staffed by volunteers.
11:00 Service – Child care is provided for infants through 2 years old in the Infant Room, utilizing paid staff. Child Care for ages 3-5 is provided year round in Room 114 in the Education wing, staffed by volunteers.
Child care for other church functions is available upon request, using our paid workers.
Child Protection Policy
At First United Methodist Church we believe that children and youth are precious to God and to the church. Therefore, we are dedicated to ensuring that all children in our care continue to grow healthily, happily and spiritually in a safe and caring Christian environment. As a result, we have developed and continue to implement policies for the protection of child physical, sexual, and/or emotional abuse. In 1997 our church wrote a Child Protection Policy. After defining inappropriate as well as permitted conduct, what to do about high risk situations, and assigning responsibility for implementation, the Policy covers the important areas of Recruiting and Selection of Workers, Worker Supervision, Reporting Procedures, and Responding to Reports of Abuse.
All workers with children and youth, including volunteers as well as staff persons, must receive the training. They also must return an application, provide two personal references and consent to a criminal records background check. The policy is very specific as to who can and cannot work with our children.
Thankfully, no allegations have ever been made. We are grateful for that and intend to keep it that way.
