Doug Armstead joins the staff of First United Methodist church in Eaton Rapid. Doug is in his 18th year of teaching. He joined the Grand Ledge Public Schools Music Staff in the fall of 2008, where he teaches 6th8th grade choral music at Hayes Middle School. His students have always participated at the district, regional and state levels each year. Besides teaching in the public schools, Doug directs the Eaton Rapids Women’s Chorus and is the accompanist for the First United Methodist Church of Eaton Rapids.
Prior to teaching in Grand Ledge, he taught in the Roscommon and Eaton Rapids School Districts. He was also the director of music at the Good Shepherd United Methodist Church of the North, directed the Mikenauk Chorale, a community choir in Roscommon, and was the assistant director of the Festival Chorus at Central Michigan University.
Doug is an active adjudicator and clinician and serves on the executive boards of: the Michigan School Vocal Music Association and the Michigan Youth Arts Association. He has also served on the American Choral Directors Association-Michigan executive board. His choirs have performed at: the Michigan Music Conference, Carnegie Hall, in Toronto and he has had an ensemble selected for the Ensemble Hour at the Michigan Youth Arts Festival. Finally, he was elected to direct the MSVMA High School SATB State Honors Choir for Michigan Music Conference in January 2009.
